Rimkeit, B. Sally: - Sally is a Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist working at the Mental Health of Older Persons Service (MHSOP) at Capital and Coast District Health Board. She is a co-convenor of the Stage 1 Psychiatric Training Programme for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), through University of Otago, Wellington campus. As a Senior Research Fellow, she is clinical lead for an international programme on the value of facilitated book groups for people living with dementia. She and linguist Dr Gillian Claridge have published five dementia-friendly books, adapted from classic literature for use in this programme and for individual sale. After completing a qualitative study on how people living with younger onset dementia view facing aged care, she is the founding Board Member of the Younger Onset Dementia Australasian Trust (YODAT), a charitable trust developing age appropriate services for people living with younger onset dementia. She contributed to a late-life suicide research project, through University of Auckland, with results published with merit in the International Psychogeriatric Association Journal. In 1979, while an undergraduate, Sally took part in a Scholar Exchange Programme at Oxford University, All Souls College, studying nutritional biochemistry and Irish literature. In 1981, she completed a Bachelor of Arts (BA, Honors), with a major in premedical zoology and minor in English Literature. She completed the coursework for a Masters of Arts (MA) in Medical Anthropology at University of Chicago in 1985, then lived in the Republic of China for two years, researching her thesis. She was conferred her MA (Honors) in 1991, after moving to New Zealand in 1987 and finishing her thesis while starting a family and establishing a career as a health researcher and writer. She worked for NZ Consumer Magazine from 1988 to 1993 covering a range of health topics. She attended medical school from 1994 to 1999 at University of Otago, Dunedin campus, with special interest and merit in psychiatry. After obtaining her MBChB, she completed sub-speciality training with the RANZCP and the Faculty of Psychiatry of Old Age.
